“With the birth of the automotive industry, a series of noises never heard before entered our ears. Techno music is representative of the future, in which the soundscape we anticipate is largely composed of flying cars whizzing by. These whizzes, hums and glitches from futuristic engines become components of present-day Techno music Ironically enough, it is the old analog machines that produce more noise than the futuristic electric cars. During the manufacturing process of these electric cars, Hollywood sound designers were consulted to construct artificial mechanical noises. A certain degree of noise is required for safety of pedestrians. One of the enjoyable aspects of listening to music is expecting one thing to happen, and then hearing something completely different. Perhaps part of the reason Techno is so enjoyable, is because we are in that part of historical time that is expecting a certain event to occur.” (via Techno Music and The Future of Sound | Darwin vs The Machine)
